Both Law and the Director of Marketing and Client Relations, Elena Gill, have been serving the senior care community for 15-20 years each and co-lead this distinct MBF brand with an unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes to serve our senior clients and meet their needs with honor and dignity. “Senior care is different each day. Care plans are always fluid and subject to change at a moment’s notice. Contingency plans are always in place for providing our seniors the absolute best care possible,” Law says.
“There is a tremendous value in who we are and how Mom’s Best Friend Senior & Elder Care meets the needs of our senior clients. We place an extremely high value on professionalism at all levels of the care we provide and are very intentional in three key areas that set us apart from every other senior care provider in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. These areas include making a thoughtful connection with each and every one of our clients, their families, and our care partners, establishing an unwavering commitment to continuity of care, and maintaining a very high touch communication network among all parties involved. By excelling in these three areas, we are able to offer exceptional care by trusted and caring providers that puts everyone at ease.”
Gill expanded on these three touchstones of service: “Our thoughtful connection begins with the very first phone call. If at all possible, Anita or myself will meet personally with the client and/or involved family members. It’s a great opportunity to explain our vast scope of services and drill down on what is actually needed now and what can be provided in the future. In the beginning, many seniors are needing assistance with transportation, personal care, light housekeeping, and simple meal prep, but it is a tremendous comfort to them and their loved ones to know that, as their needs change, so also can the level of care provided.”
“These meetings are extremely helpful to us and the families. It’s an important part of building the needed trust to invite someone into your home and to help you or an aging loved one,” says Law. “Sometimes meeting the needs of our clients calls for a lot of out-of-the-box thinking. There can be lots of logistics involved and lots of coordination necessary when additional outside caregivers are involved such as concierge doctors, physical or occupational therapists, or other licensed healthcare workers.
“We are also very intentional when handling the family’s dynamics. Although there may be several opinions about the best care plan to pursue, our goal is to keep everyone informed and confident in our level of care. It is very important to us to begin building this trust from our very first point of contact.”
In addition to thoughtful connection with everyone we serve, continuity of care is an integral cornerstone of MBF Senior Care. “Continuity of care begins with that first initial meeting and is carried out consistently and intentionally by everyone on the MBF team. Elena or I begin formulating a team of preferred care providers during that first meeting. We know our highly capable team of providers very well. We know their strengths, where they excel, and their personalities and the type of clients they serve best,” says Law. “We want the very first caregiver to be the absolute best fit possible for our clients as we have an exceptional reputation in the industry. If we need to make a change, a pause and pivot moment, we are responsive in providing other options. We never forget how important it is that the overall plan of care is the primary focus.”
The third and probably most unique aspect of the MBF Senior Care approach is high touch communication. “What we realized early on is that communication amongst our care team, family members, and MBF management is crucial to everyone. We maintain a streamlined, HIPPA-compliant, communication platform 24/7 that allows access whenever and whatever the need. Because the needs of our senior population can change so dramatically and so quickly, being able to get in touch with a member of our team is invaluable to the families of our clients,” says Law. “For many of our clients’ families, we maintain an ongoing dialogue throughout the day. We share highlights from the day and other important information relative to their care needs. This is especially helpful to family members that don’t live nearby because it allows them to feel more involved.”
Profile in Caring
Recently an entire MBF care team had the privilege of caring for a client as she fought the unrelenting attacks of ALS. “It was a three-year journey for her and us. As the disease progressed, so did our level of care,” remembers Law. “It was an emotional journey for all of us that knew her.”
Previous to the disease’s progression, our client had been very community-minded, involved in her church, and had a group of very supportive friends. She and her husband had planned to travel extensively in their later years, but her diagnosis and condition when we first met her made this all but impossible. “It was important to her and her family members as well as our MBF team that we do everything within our power to honor her wishes in any way possible. This called for lots of coordination with medical professionals, office visits, in-home medical professionals, and other outside personnel. Our lead caregiver was experienced in ALS care and was a natural fit in caring for this brave client.
“When we first met with our client, her disease was considered moderately advanced, so we knew her ongoing care would be complex from the start and need to be highly adaptive. Our outstanding caregiving team didn’t hesitate to continue serving her care needs.”
As the disease continued to advance, our client’s mobility continued to decrease. With this in mind, outings became especially important. When dreams of worldwide travel all but disappeared, our MBF care partners did the next best thing—they ‘traveled’ locally, going to great lengths to help this client as much as possible. “It was our goal to give a purpose to each day for our client. Even if a client’s independence is compromised, we do everything we can to not limit their very existence. Instead, we look for what we can do with and for them and not what we can’t,” says Gill. “Our client thoroughly enjoyed going to church, the mall, the park, lunch with friends, and more. We wanted her to have the best experiences still possible. This meant having a back-up to the back-up to the back-up because of her health limitations including mobile oxygen, a feeding tube, an augmented communication tablet, and more. It was a complex plan that called for coordinating people, places, supplies, and accommodations, but every outing was worth it. She was so appreciative, her husband was grateful, and her kids were happy knowing their mom was being so well cared for.”
“Our care partners truly became part of this woman’s family. They made an impact on her life and her family’s life. Towards the end of her life, we worked alongside hospice workers by providing 24/7 care, 12-hour shifts at a time. At her celebration of life service, our MBF team was honored to be included in the family slide show and was graciously and publicly thanked for their selfless caring over the last three years,” remembers Gill. “It was an honor for us all.”
The Calling, the Care, the Commitment
“Our care is not transactional; our goal is companionship and service no matter what or who the needs are,” states Gill. “Our teams begin serving the minute they walk through the door each day or night.”
But this is just the beginning of all that makes MBF Senior Care so unique.
Beyond providing in-home care, MBF care providers also serve as advocates for clients in the hospital, and skilled nursing facilities, and rehab facilities. “It’s important to have an advocate in these situations, and our MBF teams can step in when family members can’t be there all day, every day,” says Gill. “We will follow a client wherever they need help and advocacy.”
“Ultimately, there are so many things that set us apart…” Law proudly says. “our scope of services, our in-depth due diligence and vetting of our care partners, and probably most importantly, our commitment to do everything possible to provide the best care we can for our clients. Add to this the three primary cornerstones of our business—thoughtful connection, extreme commitment to continuity of care, and high-touch communication with and on behalf of our clients and their families—and it’s the very heart of Mom’s Best Friend.
“We’re proud to be one of the top—if not the very top–Senior Care Provider in Dallas/Ft. Worth. We’re a small, but mighty, local business with roots that go deep here. We’re proud to meet families where they are in terms of senior care, proud to help them understand how to best accommodate their unique set of circumstances, and honored to come alongside them in caring for their loved ones. It’s a privilege and one we don’t take lightly.” Our services are available across the DFW Metroplex, in cities like Dallas, Highland Park, University Park, Plano, Frisco, Southlake, Flower Mound, Argyle, and more.
